What is a clean label supplement?

Clean label supplements which were initially popular with health-conscious consumers, have slowly gained popularity among the common masses.

A consumer can identify a clean labeled product by seeing the following things: simple ingredient names, minimal use of manufacturing aids, includes natural ingredients and free from GMOs (genetically modified organisms) i.e. gluten, allergens, and artificial components. In simple words products free from all unnecessary fillers or excipients, and where possible, no fillers at all. Just a pure, potent dose of the natural extract.

How to define a true clean label dietary supplement?

FDA has not defined “clean label," as of now. Dietary supplements industries have been left on their own to come up with their definitions of clean label which can confuse consumers and threaten to dilute the opportunity to bring improved products to the marketplace.

In the absence of a proper definition, there are variations in “clean labels”. Some consider their label to be clean if the product contains only ‘natural' raw materials while some feel they have achieved a clean label if the ingredients are GMO-free. Others think a product has a clean label if there are no fillers used to produce the product.

For production of clean label dietary supplements there are different sets of challenges with no clear definition. It is left up to the brand owner to determine what ingredients will comprise a “clean label product”.

At FōLIUS LABS™, we have a clean label philosophy that is completely transparent and traceable. This means that what you see on the label, is what you get in the bottle. No confusing ingredients, no unnecessary fillers or excipients, and where possible, no fillers at all. Just a pure, potent dose of the natural extract.
